You may need the software license file or your SLC when you, for example, create a My Milestone user account, contact your reseller for support, or if you need to make changes to your system. You can open the License Information window in the Site Navigation pane -> Basics node -> License Information. You can also see your SLC in the License Information window in Management Client. Milestone recommends that you store the information about your SLC and a copy of your software license file in a safe place for later use. The software license file contains all information about your purchased VMS products, add-on products, and licenses.

Your SLC is also printed on your order confirmation and consists of several numbers and letters grouped by hyphens like:
MILESTONE XPROTECT ESSENTIAL UPGRADE
Only when you upgrade to a more advanced XProtect product and need to change your SLC (Software License Code) (see Change the Software License Code), the rest of this topic and the other licensing-related topics in this documentation could be relevant for you. Automatic license activation is enabled, and hardware will be activated as you add it to the system. If you have installed XProtect Essential+, you can run the system and eight device licenses for free.

For more information, see the documentation for XProtect on AWS.Īfter you deploy, use Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) to connect to your EC2 instance, or use the XProtect Web Client and XProtect Mobile to access the VMS via HTTPS. The charges for using the AWS services required by the XProtect Essential+ CloudFormation are listed when you subscribe to XProtect Essential+ in AWS Marketplace. The EC2 instance uses Amazon Elastic Block Storage (EBS), which provides expandable storage based on your usage. The XProtect Essential+ CloudFormation template creates a Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) and deploys the XProtect VMS software on a c5.xlarge EC2 instance. For more information, see the getting started guide for XProtect BYOL on AWS. If you already have an XProtect license, or if you want to deploy another Milestone XProtect version, use the Milestone XProtect® Bring Your Own License (BYOL) 2020 R3 CloudFormation instead. You can also use XProtect Essential+ without restriction. With XProtect Essential+ you can replace or add to the preinstalled virtual cameras and connect up to eight cameras. The XProtect Essential+ CloudFormation template includes four preinstalled virtual cameras with prerecorded video streams that are used to demonstrate a basic VMS installation. The XProtect Essential+ CloudFormation stack contains an Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) instance and an Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC), which runs Windows Server 2019. Milestone XProtect® Essential+ in AWS Marketplace provides the free, Essential+ version of XProtect in an AWS CloudFormation template that you can deploy in your AWS service account.
